Our Exeter Office
Already a well-known name in the South Hams, Luscombe Maye opened a new office in the Exeter area in January 2017. The new office, specialising in rural issues, is in Cheriton Bishop, directly alongside the A30 dual carriageway. It’s part of a former pub called The Mulberry Inn, now serving as the headquarters for the Devon Young Farmers (Luscombe Maye contributed £10,000 to the charity’s refurbishment project).
“We are really excited to be taking our services into this area,” says Luscombe Maye senior partner Stuart Hext. “It’s ideally placed, with Dartmoor to the south and the Ruby Country farming belt to the north. We have had a lot of demand in this region, especially planning and landlord and tenant advice, so it’s great to have a physical presence there.”
Services on offer include not only sales and lettings of rural properties, but also a full menu of advisory services. These include valuations, landlord and tenant advice, grant and planning applications, and guidance on diversification and infrastructure such as pipelines and renewable energy projects.
“Luscombe Maye was first established as agricultural auctioneers and estate agents in the 1870s,” says Stuart. “Over the years we have expanded into different types of property and residential sales, but our roots are rural.”
Amanda Burden is the head of agriculture and rural planning at Luscombe Maye, where she has been partner in charge of the firm’s Totnes office since 2006. A farmer’s daughter who grew up on a beef and sheep enterprise before studying at Seale Hayne College, Amanda and her husband now manage a farm and a successful holiday letting business in South Devon.
“Having been an active Young Farmer myself and working with Young Farmers who are the future of our rural industries, it is fantastic that we are sharing offices with the Devon Federation,” she says. “My colleague Charlie Wreford-Brown always said: ‘have wheels, will travel’ – our team of rural professionals have always travelled throughout Devon, Cornwall and Somerset to anyone who needed our services.
“This new office will make a convenient base for people who want to come to us, and it’s great to have a presence in this part of Devon.”
