Property Description:

DESCRIPTION Furnivals Quail offers spacious 4 bedroomed, mid terraced accommodation within a conversion of beautiful Grade II Listed barns. Arranged over three floors and with an outlook to one of the inner courtyards, this property has been used as a family holiday retreat follow a fabulous renovation through out but is equally well suited as a low maintenance main home and has proven to be a very successful long-term or holiday let rental. Maintenance of the communal areas is overseen by the Management Company. The whole complex lies within several acres of lawns and landscaped gardens including a tennis court, barbecue area and ample car parking. Rowden Court is located high in farmland, yet only half a mile from the sea with splendid cliffs, the South West Coast Path and cove beach and only half a mile or so from the beautifully picturesque boating villages of Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers.

HISTORICAL NOTE The history of Rowden Court goes back to the 1830's when Lord Revelstoke, formerly Edward Baring of the Baring Brothers Bank, lavished money on his Membland Hall estate; some 4,000 acres of the lovely South Hams countryside centred on his Jacobean mansion at Membland. It included a coastal 10 mile carriage drive for his wife, Louisa, along which delightful walks can still be enjoyed. Access to this popular drive, now part of the South West Coast Path, is a short distance from the property. Lord Revelstoke is believed to have instructed the prominent Architect Piers St Aubyn to design his estate and his distinctive style is to be seen in many local buildings, including the barns at Rowden. The gothic style, use of local stone and the exposed rafter ends immediately identify the properties he designed. He did not limit his work to houses. He designed the village church and school and all the service buildings to the estate. Rowden Court was originally an outstanding range of barns and it is to preserve their architectural merit that Listed Building consent. The conversion of the barns was carried out in the mid 1980s.

SITUATION The twin villages of Newton Ferrers & Noss Mayo enjoy a delightful riverside setting on the wooded slopes of the estuary of the River Yealm. This sheltered, deep water harbour is much favoured by yachtsmen & lies within a truly beautiful valley in the unspoilt South Hams countryside, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Special Area of Conservation. The villages share a number of facilities including a post office, pharmacy, traditional butcher, Co-operative store, three excellent, waterside public houses, two churches, yacht club with bistro, tea-rooms & good Primary School. The holiday retreats and full time residences have found a comfortable balance that propel this thriving community with countless clubs and activities available for the more sociable and active, or long picturesque walks for those who simply want to enjoy the peace and tranquillity. Bus services run to Plymouth city centre which is within easy commuting distance. The main route from Plymouth to Exeter (A38/M5 Devon Expressway) is only a few miles away.
